Area SENCO support in all schools Reception classes General guidance over the phone or email (no children identified) Traded Services – short initial visit to establish support required (free), any further visits traded

Maintained Nurseries (same support as for PVIs) Unlimited SEN support General guidance over the phone or email Expectation – graduated approach has been followed (EY SENCO handbook p21 – EY resources on Schools online)

Level 1 support Strengths and needs identified Support plan (IPP, BSP) agreed with parents (level 1 support strategies in EY SENCO handbook) Child supported in setting following the plan Progress reviewed

Level 2 support – very little progress made (continues to require high level of support) Early Help Record and Plan EYC involvement if necessary Referrals to other agencies TAC meetings to review EHRP progress and set new actions

EYC/ Lead teacher support offered Observations of children Advice on IPP or ‘My plan’ targets Advice on strategies to support a child Review of where a child is in the EYFS Advice on referrals to other agencies Advice on transition to school Meet with parents (not routine) Write child report to support referrals and SENRAP applications Support with High Needs funding applications

Referrals to other agencies Education Psychology ASC advisory service Nyland Campus Outreach Team (except opted out academies) Dedicated early years time – no need to use school time (need to involve EYC to agree referrals)

EY SENCO Although not statutory good practice to have an EY SENCO working alongside school SENCO Could be an HLTA or teacher Needs to attend ‘New SENCO’ training 3 x ½ day - 4.10.16, 11.10.16 and 17.10.16 or 3.3.17, 10.3.17 and 15.3.17 Book via CPD centre – cpd@swindonteachingschool.org.uk cpd@swindonteachingschool.org.uk
