3 Math ➔ Textbook HMH (consumable workbook), stays in cubbie until needed, available online (check my website). Students have sign on information written in their agendas. ➔ Teacher Website Homework assignments posted daily. ➔ Math ISN/Red Folder Notes are taken in ISN. Graded/checked assignments kept in red math folder. ➔ Homework There’s always homework (fast facts, studying, video tutorials, etc.)

4 ELA 6th Grade English Language Arts develops communication skills through: reading a variety of texts, acquiring new vocabulary, and determining the writer’s meaning using multiple reading strategies which give students deep experiences with reading for a purpose.developing writing skills from basic sentence structure to writing essays and creative pieces while focusing on all aspects of the writing process. developing speaking, listening, and media skills for the 21st century. ➔ Springboard Published by the CollegeBoard, looks like a big workbook but is used to hold their ‘thinking’ about what we have been reading and writing about. Almost always stays at school. ➔ Reader/Writer’s Notebook (RWNB) ➔ Homework/Assignments (NIGHTLY READING!) See ELA Homework Calendar on webpage; also use Remind

5 Science 6th grade Science is a mix of Physical, Earth, and Life Sciences. We cover all areas to prepare for 7th & 8th grade science. ➔ Textbook HMH (working text...like a big workbook), stays in cubbie until needed, available online (check my website) ➔ Science Journal ➔ Website Classroom Calendar This is where you will find assignments and you can print them! ➔ Science Fair (not required in 6th grade, but encouraged!)

6 Social Studies 6th grade Social Studies includes: *WORLD* History, Culture, and Geography ● Textbook I will send instructions home soon on how to connect to the online textbook from home. These stay at school as we only have a class set. ● SS Binder Stays in classroom unless there is a test ● Website Classroom Calendar This is where you will find assignments and you can print them (on most days) ● Medieval Times/Castle Project Coming in November

7 Technology at Green ● Students may bring personal devices to use for educational purposes ● Devices are collected each morning and returned at the end of the day ● Please download the Allen ISD app for you & your child ● TEKS app-great resource for seeing specifics of what your child is studying each week.

8 Communication ● Newsletter is sent via email each Thursday giving an overview of upcoming week, TEKS covered, and calendar events. ● Twitter: we do our best to tweet 6th graders in action during the day. ● Classroom Website Calendar gives access to homework assignments if student forgets or is sick. ● Remind app for homeroom teacher and subject area. ● Email or phone calls always welcome! ● In a last minute dismissal change, please call the front office!

9 Explorer Time ● 1:30-2:00 each day with Study Hall on Fridays ● M/W-Math and T/Th- ELA ● Reteach and Extension activities based on student needs

10 6 th Grade Tutoring/ Study Hall/Detention Policy T utoring The Sixth Grade team offers tutoring for all subject areas. Math tutoring is offered on Mondays afterschool from 3:00-3:45, ELA tutoring is offered on Tuesdays afterschool from 3:00-3:45, and Science and Social Studies tutoring is offered by appointment after school. Tutoring is not a homework club, but a time when teachers can help students who have questions in a specific topic area. Students should discuss with their content area teacher the specific topic they would like to come to tutoring for prior to attending tutoring. Study Hall Sixth Grade students who would like a place to do homework at school are invited to come to Study Hall. Study Hall will be offered on Tuesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. each week in the Multipurpose Room. Students should come to Study Hall with their homework from class. Computers will be available at Study Hall. Detention Students who receive two or more signatures on the bottom half of their summary card will earn a Detention. Detentions will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-3:30 p.m. in an assigned 6 th Grade teacher’s room. Homeroom teachers will be checking student’s conduct cards Fridays after lunch. Parents of students with two or more signatures will be notified that their child has earned a Detention and the date that the Detention is to be served on. If you have any questions on Tutoring, Study Hall, or Detention, please feel free to contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
