Objectives of project Main objective to contribute to improving the competitiveness of the (RMG) industry in Bangladesh while simultaneously improving OHS and workers' conditions Supplementary objective: gain new and exploratory knowledge about the dynamics between buyers and suppliers in respect to co-development of sustainable (OHS) and productivity advancements

General methodology Mapping production and OHS level as well as supply chain collaboration in 50 Bangladesh companies Development of methods for co-development of OHS, productivity and quality Pilot testing of intervention in 12 garment manufacturers Analysis of results and revision of methodology Dissemination of results Builds on already established practical experience with co- development in both Denmark and Bangladesh

Research questions What are the configurations of the buyer-supplier relationships that positively influence the development of sustainable and co- enhancing OHS and productivity practices among suppliers? What are the internal OHS and productivity practices in firms of different sizes that are effective in the creation of sustainable synergies between OHS and productivity? What are the firm internal barriers and drivers to sustainable co- development of OHS and productivity in firms of different sizes and performance levels? What features of the Cut and Sew and Original Equipment Manufacturing firms are critical for the development of sustainable and co-enhancing OHS and productivity practices? Peter Hasle

General project outcomes Methods for assessment of OHS and productivity maturity levels Methods for the integrated improvement of OHS and productivity targeting the different stakeholders At least ten articles addressing these topics in trade journals in Bangladesh and Denmark. Three stakeholder seminars in Bangladesh and two in Denmark. Collaboration with the Ethical Trade Initititative Business cases for DIEH’s handbook for supplier training and for Danish Fashion and Textile dissemination to members. Policy recommendations One workshop in Bangladesh for local unions. Peter Hasle

One scientific workshop in Bangladesh on integration of OHS and productivity. Knowledge from the project integrated in several courses at both AUST and CIP.
