3 Consumer Survey on Access Barriers Covers educational materials, software, films, music Phase 1 involves face-to-face interviews Phase 2 will develop a quantitative questionnaire from the face-to-face interviews Covering the same countries as the A2K Watch List Access barriers may go beyond copyright issues

4 Example questions from the Consumer Survey Phase 1: – How, if at all, do the terms under which films or music are licensed…influence how you use them? Phase 2 (example only): – I avoid downloading copyrighted material using the Internet because I know it is illegal. 54321

5 How to complete phase 1 of the Consumer Survey Sign a Letter of Agreement with CI covering your work on the consumer survey and Watch List Conduct enough interviews to cover major age, gender, income and (if applicable) ethnic groups Answers can be written in form by interviewer Or can be recorded but we need them in English For promotion purposes, ask if they mind a photo!

6 Timeline Phase 1 for all regions complete by 30 June 2009 Phase 2 survey developed for distribution online and in print by Q3 2009 CI members to disseminate and promote survey for completion by Q4 2009 Consumer Survey report to be published 2010
