Alzheimer’s Dementia Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 50- 60% of all cases. It is a progressive neurological condition characterised by the build up of two proteins - amyloid and tau in the brain forming ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’. The damage is irreversible It generally affects the hippocampus area - it plays a key role in the formation of new memories.
