Data Snapshot Matt Bednorz Englewood High School Spring 2013
2
Data Snapshot Is the Educational Program a success? Using the following information from the SUIP, Englewood HS is in a Priority Improvement Status, and in my opinion could be more successful. Englewood High School is performing on 9th and 10th grade CSAP and TCAP assessments in the bottom 15th percentile of 372 high schools in Colorado in Reading, and the bottom 16th percentile in writing and math. Academic growth in Math is the strongest at 47%, but EHS students need to be performing in the 97th percentile in order to be proficient or advanced by 10th grade. CSAP and TCAP Reading and Writing achievement scores have been flat to declining the last several years, although EHS is making adequate growth in Reading (41%). The growth in CSAP/TCAP Writing is 44%, but the State expectation is 81% in order to be proficient by 10th grade. CSAP and TCAP 9th and 10th grade Math achievement scores have been very inconsistent and generally declining the last 5 years. EHS has been lagging the State average in 9th grade CSAP/TCAP Math each year since 2002, with the exception of 2006. EHS has also been below the State average in 10th grade CSAP/TCAP Math each year since 2001. 2

TCAP and ACT Summary The TCAP summaries below do not have any category over 50% Proficient and Advanced. The highest category is reading which is emphasized in almost all classes at EHS while writing, math and science are not utilized as often in all subjects. The ACT scores show that 25% of the juniors who took the test scored over 20 points. 17

Graduation Summary The data on the previous screen did not include the 2011 data which is listed below. The graduation rate was at a low in 2006 with only 54%, which then increased to 78.6% in 2009 but has dropped again in 2011. The data shows and increase to a leveling point but now a decreasing trend. 19

Discipline Summary The Discipline summary indicates that the majority of referrals are for tardiness, disrespect and skipping. By far the majority of them are taking place in the classroom and around 9:00 AM which is when our first period takes place. When broken down by ethnicity 44.65% of the referrals go the white students. But when compared to population size, there are more Hispanic referrals per student than any other group. 30

What are the perceptions of the stakeholders? There are three surveys that follow this page which gives an interpretation of the perceptions of the Englewood High School. The first teacher survey, shows how EHS teachers rate themselves lower than the majority of other schools in Positive School Climate 2.9 out of 4, Protective Factors 3 out of 4 and Value on Health 2.9 out of 4. But in the last category of Self-Efficacy, EHS scored 3.6 out of 4 which was higher than the majority of other schools in the district. The student survey on Safe School environment show that students felt on average a 3.1 out of 4 which indicates a feeling of safety from the students at school. The last survey does show a trend of about one third of our student’s using some kind of substance (cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana and/or other drugs). 31
