4. Many of the goods from the Midwest are shipped by barge. Barges and boats transported goods through the great lakes and on rivers that eventually flow into the Atlantic ocean. Then the goods are transferred to ships and the ships take them all around the world.

5. Farmland In the Midwest they have a corn palace and that’s in Mitchell, south Dakota. The reason they built it was because they wanted to show how important their agriculture is. The Midwest is one of the worlds most important agriculture regions. Summers in the Midwest are warm and growing season is long. Midwestern farms produce crops that are not only used for food but for many other products too. Not all farms in the Midwest grow the same crops. The reason why farms grow different crops is because it has to do with water.

6. The Central Plains The farmland of the Central Plains is known as the Corn Belt. Since that area gets plenty of rain they grow corn. Corn Belt farmers usually switch between two crops. They would plant corn one year and soybeans the next. The soybeans add materials to the soil that the corn needs to grow. When you plant different crops in different years it’s called crop rotation.

7. The Great Plains The Great Plains don’t get as much rain as the Central Plains does. Crops that don’t need much water are wheat, oats, and barley. Sun flower also grows in that area. Farmers bring water to their farms and spray it over their fields.
