How does an English BA help? Speed reading and understanding information as quickly as possible. Inquisitiveness. Analyzing texts and considering both sides. Balanced arguments and being impartial or being persuasive. Working under time pressure. Academic essays – ethics, law, research.

Things to consider Be sure a masters is what you want to do. Workload. – no holidays but flip side is opportunities interviews, what ive been to see, free shows Consider finances – living at home/working/bursaries

Work Experience Vox pops. Proofreading copy Nibs Bylines. Spotted pages/hashtag searches. Transcribing. Press releases. Bring your own stories! Always have a pen and pad and chewing gum.

Focus on what you are interested in. Become a news junkie. Be everywhere on social media. Blog and get Journalisted/ Culturefly – getting your name out there. Google search ‘writing opportunities for…’ Get involved with the Ripple – shows you are keen. Be brave, bold and ballsy. Be persistent but be polite. Use your contacts and contact book. Be inquisitive – ASK!!!
