Importance of Wireless

Processes of Wireless Internet Known now as WiFi Very similar to how radio and television signals work Information gets coded into patterns of electricity and magnetism Coded info sent from transmitter to receiver Similar process except instead of sending sounds for radio and pictures for television, internet data is the information being transferred

Wireless Router Not completely wireless!!

Wireless Router Plugs into telephone socket Router is a computer in its own 2 main jobs: 1)Create a wireless network 2)Lets all computers capable of receiving the network access the same internet gateway

Wireless Router Use low frequency radio waves to connect to local computers instead of cables Up to 300 ft. (depending on appliances & thickness of walls) When signal is interrupted, no Internet access! Computers need internal networking devices Some are built in, others need to be installed (external cards)

Sending & Receiving Signals Computer  Router Computer’s Wireless adapter codes and sends information to router using its antenna Router receives and decodes information, then sends information out to the Internet through the telephone socket

Sending & Receiving Signals Process also works in reverse Router  Computer Router receives signal from the Internet Codes and sends information to computer’s wireless antenna Computer’s wireless antenna decodes and uses information
