12
12 MANAGE Data Center migrations are far more complex than the physical movement of items. Employing a High Level Project Management hierarchy that supports all facets of a relocation is critical. Develop Project Scope Due Diligence Risk Identification, Tracking and Mitigation Develop and Sign Program Charter Communications and Quality Assurance Plan Roles and Responsibility Matrix Develop Project Schedule Resource Allocation Critical Path Identify Major and Minor Milestones Initiate Project Manage and maintain Schedule Change management process Project Management Status Reports Lessons Learned Process
13
13 Critical Challenges
14
14 Missed dependencies within applications Lack of a Senior Technical Architect and a Technical Transition Manager Lack of communication between business units and technical towers Poor bandwidth planning (bandwidth for migration decreases as migration progresses) Lack of Adhoc requests Mitigation Plan Budget Resources Agility plan CRITICAL CHALLENGES
15
15 Key Take away
16
16 While DC migrations are fraught with risk, and opportunities for failure, some small, some massive, the benefits may out weigh the risks. Avoiding a migration or delaying it will only make the migration more complex in the long run, and stifle growth in the interim. KEY TAKE AWAY
