1 1 Joint Master Programme Tallinn University of Technology Tartu University Materials and Processes of Sustainable Energetics

2 2 Today’s Situation Energy is (almost) no cost factor in developed societies but starting to become unavailable for developing countries. Energy is based on fossil fuels consuming in one year what nature deposited in 1 Mio. years, CO 2 produced thereby is seriously threatening the world climate.

3 3 The happy life?!

4 4 May be……?!!

5 5 Goal and Objective Engineers able to solve problems connected with energy processes connected to conversion, transport, storage and utilization of energy in a sustainable way, and Scientists working on new materials for sustainable energetics, educated on the highest possible level.

6 6 Educational reguirements Bachelor degree in Natural Science Bachelor degree in Engineering ( chemistry, physics, energetics, mechanical engineering etc) www.ttu.ee/sustainable-energetics

7 7 Educational Aim - 1 The aim of the Master´s program is to provide an academic university education on all possibilities to minimize and optimize the use of energy based on thorough applied and practical interdisciplinary skills. The students can specialize on Materials and on Processes for Sustainable Energetics. The specialization on Materials will lead to a deep level scientific understanding of this specialty.

8 8 Educational Aim - 2 The courses will be taught both, in Tallinn University of Technology and in Tartu University in compact courses integrating lectures, laboratory and theoretical classes blocked to just several days duration enabling also the integration of foreign visiting students. All courses will be given in English support in the first two terms by intensive classes in scientific English. The curriculum will generate adequate value judgment allowing to act within cooperation networks, accept responsibilities, initiate leadership and approach problems professionally while constantly updating one´s knowledge and skills.

21 Scientifical knowledges Cost and minimization of the energy usage Information about the new solar cell materials and technologies

22 “Already as an exchange student during my Bachelor's programme I experienced the excellent research environment on the TUT campus in the field of material science for solar cells. I also got involved in real business life with Crystalsol, the spin-off company that commercializes TUT's monograin solar cell approach. After finishing my bachelor's degree in Austria I was happy to be able to return to Tallinn. The Sustainable Energetics Master Programme brings together a small but beautiful Nordic country with students and researchers from all over the world. I can say that the research groups here look forward to integrating new students and are very helpful and friendly all the time!”

23 Thank you!
