7. We flexibly group students in Reading and Math. We initially looked at EOG or other state tests along with grades and any other data that was available to us from the end of fourth grade. We re-assess students all the time to see if their placement is still where it needs to be. The teachers will meet as a team during data teams to discuss movement of students. Your child’s homeroom teacher will let you know if a move will happen.

County policy states that I have 7 days to input grades into Power School- Please know that homeroom classes have been scheduled at this time and the other core classes are being corrected and fixed at this time. Once we are given the all clear, we will begin entering grades. A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F Below a 60

10. 10 points will be taken off for each day an assignment is late Students who do not turn in an assignment at all by the end of the nine weeks will receive a 50 in the grade book for that assignment. I will always make sure to mark it with an ”M” (missing) so you will be able to distinguish if this was a 50 for not turning in the work. Students who turn in homework/classwork and make below a 60 on the assignment will receive a 59 in the grade book. All quiz and test grades remain the grade the child earned.

11. Please fill out the online excuse form when your child is going to be absent. If you do not have access to the online form, please send in a note the day your child returns back to school. When a child returns back to school, they need to check the While You Were Away folder or board for makeup work. Students have the same amount of days they were absent to make up their work.

12. Writing is integrated in all of our subjects. Smaller writing units will be a part of the Reading block.

Forces and Motion; Matter: Properties and Change; Energy: Conservation and Transfer; Weather; Cells/Human Body; Ecosystems; Evolution and Genetics Science notebook Vocabulary notecards Science assessment is in June on the computer. Grades come from classwork, science notebook, in-class projects and activities, and tests Automatic homework- study science notebook AT LEAST three times a week for 10- 15 minutes. 11 – 11:50

14. All About the United States: Current Events History (Colonization, American Revolution, the Civil War) Government Economics ~Interactive units and notebook ~Grades come from classwork, quizzes, notebook checks, tests

15. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school-filled with water, which they can take to their other classes with them. Students may bring a snack to eat prior to their Specials block. Must be something small and easy to eat while they work.

16. Birthday treats may be brought to school. Must be store bought. Birthday treats will be shared with homeroom classes during the snack times since students are with their Block C classes for lunch. Please email me to let me know if you will be sending in a birthday treat to share with our homeroom.

17. ~ We will be 1 to 1 in our technology here at HES. ~ 5 th Graders will use Mac Air Laptops and Chrome Books. ~Students are allowed to B.Y.O.T ~Please go to the Harrisburg Elementary webpage (under the Parents Tab) and fill in the Permission Form before letting students bring technology. ~I prefer that students not use their phones or iPods as their technology devices because the screens are so small.

18. If students have an iPad they can download the Dream box app as well as the vocabulary app for iReady. If students are using a droid device, they will need to download the Puffin web browser app. This web browser will allow them to get on Dream box via the web.

19. ~Please e-mail with any questions or concerns. I will get back to you with in 24 hours. Due to our schedule, I will be checking email in the morning, but not again until the end of the day. If you need to change transportation for your child, you will need to send him/her in with a note. ~Folders will come home on Thursdays. Please make sure that you check the folder for any graded work, papers from the office, etc. Any papers that should be signed and returned should be placed back in the folder for your child to return to school on Fridays. ~Please also sign your child’s behavior card on Thursday evening.
