Objectives Describe and reflect on different communicative functions related to their grammatical structures Get familiar with common rules and creation of structures Manage basic notions of morphosyntaxis of English Know how to resolve issues and manage proper language of the area Give evidence of personal and pair work as well as a critical awareness

Class Contents UNIT CONTENTS 1 Basic Concepts Open class units (noun, adjective, verb, adverb) 2 Closed class units (determiner, particles, prepositions and conjunctions) Functional Units 3 Type of Sentences (simple, compound and complex) Sentence Patterns

Evaluations 3 evaluations (one per unit) Every evaluation will have a theoretical and a practical section The difficulty will be 60% Before every test, there will be a Workshop which will sum up a individual grade A final project in pairs (or alone) will the last evaluation

Selection of chapters For every unit there will be specific chapters that will be working on, you must have a copy of these with you during classes. Please follow the Course Planning according to your sectionCourse Planning This selection is the minimum, you are recommended to have copies (printed or in your computers) of every of the texts mentioned

Administrative issues Attendance: 75 % (by the end of November) Communication: through email and moodle Missing classes: holidays and/or students’ activities (possible recovery) Assistantship: no obligatory but necessary

Diagnosis Activity Read in pairs chapter one “What is grammar and what is not” from English Grammar For Today Answer the questions by the end of the chapter. You must delivery your answers the same day (in class or by email) If you don’t find the answers in the chapter, please leave the questions without answer
