Figurative Language is saying something other than what is literally meant to make the work more interesting. Figurative devices are metaphors, similes, symbols, personification, irony/sarcasm, and Imagery.

Connotative - the implied meaning of a word. Example: Kelly gulped down her soda quickly. or Kelly gently sipped her tea.
