DENOTATION IS THE LITERAL MEANING OF A WORD CONNOTATION IS THE FIGURATIVE OR EMOTIONAL MEANING OF A WORD. THE EMOTIONAL ASSOCIATIONS OF A WORD OR PHRASE, AS OPPOSED TO ITS EXACT MEANING. A WORD CAN HAVE POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE ASSOCIATIONS OR CONNOTATIONS.
