Prepositions introduce PP (prepositional phrases) They can express relation of: possession, place, time, etc. In a PP, after the preposition it usually comes an NP: on the table About the friends If it is linking a complement to the rest of a sentence, this can be placed in any part of the sentence In the library, I found the book I found the book in the library Function

There can be some subclasses which can be used to divide prepositions in smaller groups, such as: Preposition of time Preposition of place Preposition of direction/movement These are helpful to organize them but they are not quite relevant to the analysis Also, it is important to remember that certain adverbs and preposition share form, especially place and direction: He ran down the stairs She sat down Form
