You can’t NOT communicate (i.e., you’re always communicating). Romantic relationships are salient to interpersonal communication. Some would define interpersonal communication as communication between a dyad.

18 Discussion Question The reading suggests that we all partake in mindless interaction when communicating with others because we use predetermined perceptions about the social world. Why do you think we all utilize these fixed ideas when interacting with someone for the first time? Do you believe that our past experiences are good indicators for how our future experiences will go or should we try and consciously push aside our preconceived notions and start fresh?
