Angles!!! Geometry Pre-AP
2
Draw an angle…
3
Definition An angle is formed by two noncollinear rays that have a common endpoint. The rays are the sides of the angle, and the common endpoint is the vertex.
4
Naming/Labeling Angles A number The vertex (if there is only one possible angle) 3 letters, with the vertex being the middle letter
5
Measuring Angles ~ Protractors measure angles! ~ Angles are measured in degrees!
6
How to use a protractor:
8
Types of Angles ~ Right Angle ~ Acute Angle ~ Obtuse Angle ~ Straight Angle ~ Reflex Angle
9
Types of Angles ~ Right Anglex = 90 o ~ Acute Angle0<x<90 o ~ Obtuse Angle90 o <x<180 o ~ Straight Anglex=180 o ~ Reflex Angle180 o <x<360 o
10
Angle Bisector! A line, line segment, or ray that passes through the vertex of the angle and cuts it into two equal smaller angles

Discuss the following words with a partner. What do they mean, or what do you think they mean? Have you ever heard them before? ~ Complement~ Supplement ~ Adjacent~ Linear ~ Vertical
13
From Google… ~ Complement --- (noun) a number or quantity of something required to make a group complete --- (verb) add to (something) in a way that enhances or improves it; make perfect
14
In Geometry… ~ Complementary Angles
15
From Google… ~ Supplement --- (noun) something that completes or enhances something else when added to it. --- (verb) add an extra element or amount to
16
In Geometry… ~ Supplementary Angles
17
From Google… ~ Adjacent --- (adj) next to or adjoining something else
18
In Geometry… ~ Adjacent Angles
19
From Google… ~ Linear --- (adj) arranged in or extending along a straight line
20
In Geometry… ~ Linear Pair
21
From Google… ~ Vertical --- (adj) in a direction, or having an alignment, such that the top is directly above the bottom
22
In Geometry… ~ Vertical Angles
