12 Trading across borders: Reported reforms in BURUNDI DB 2013: Burundi reduced the time to trade across borders by enhancing its use of electronic data interchange systems, introducing a more efficient system for monitoring goods going through transit countries and improving border coordination with neighboring transit countries.

13 Trading across borders: Reported reforms in KENYA DB 2011: Implementation of an electronic cargo tracking system, linked to the Kenya Revenue Authority’s electronic data interchange system for customs clearance. DB 2009: Extended opening hours of customs and port authorities and reduced number of inspection points between Nairobi and Mombasa. Introduction of an electronic system allowing traders to submit their documents online.

14 DB 2011: Reduction of the number of trade documents required and enhancement of its joint border management procedures with Uganda and other neighbors, leading to improvement in trade logistics environment. DB 2010: Improved trading times thru increased operating hours and enhanced cooperation at the border, plus removal of some documentation requirements for importers and exporters. DB 2009: Implementation or improvement of EDI, risk- based inspections, resulting in decrease in export and import time. Trading across borders: Reported reforms in RWANDA

15 DB 2013: Importing made more difficult by introducing a requirement to obtain a certificate of conformity with technical regulations before the imported goods are shipped. DB 2012: Implementation of the Pre-Arrival Declaration (PAD) system and electronic submission of customs declaration. Trading across borders: Reported reforms in TANZANIA

16 DB 2010: Improved customs processes, plus benefits from increased operating hours at the Port of Mombasa, and improved cooperation at the border. DB 2008: Extension of the application of the Asycuda++ EDI system to 4 additional customs stations, introducing a system linking banks to customs (for payment of duties), and enhancing border cooperation along the Kenya–Uganda Border at Malaba through joint inspections. Trading across borders: Reported reforms in UGANDA
