Analyst ® 5 Introduction Introduction All Cochran Dive Computers store massive amounts of profile, statistical, and configuration data. Furthermore, there are numerous parameters within the Dive Computer that can be changed by the user. The Cochran Analyst is a PC software product that is designed to be compatible with Cochran Dive Computers that can be used to extract, format, and display data from the Dive Computer and allows the user to change certain parameters. The first version of Analyst (V1.00) was released in 1993. The new Lifeguard Analyst 5. software was first introduced in 2016 to be foreword compatible with the new Lifeguard family of Dive Computers, Recorders, and selected future Cochran products. It is NOT backwards compatible with previous Cochran products and does not replace the older Analysts. There are the following Analyst 5 Editions either available or in Development: Standard EditionAvailable Professional EditionIn Development Dive Teams EditionIn Development Navy Field EditionIn Development Navy Master EditionAvailable An Internet connection must be available to download/install, update, and upgrade Analyst. The Analyst USB Interface module is included with most Lifeguard Family products. The Lifeguard Analyst 5 software is compatible with Windows XP and later. © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction Libraries Introduction When Analyst is first installed, the following seven Libraries are created: Analyst Files LibraryUsed with all Editions Divers LibraryUsed with Professional and Dive Teams Editions Dive Sites LibraryUsed with Professional and Dive Teams Editions Gas Switches LibraryUsed with all Editions Dive Teams LibraryUsed with the Dive Teams Edition Missions LibraryUsed with the Dive Teams Edition Simulations LibraryUsed with Professional and Dive Teams Editions These Libraries are for the user’s convenience to store and retrieve commonly used files. If the name of a Library is changed, Analyst will create another one with no information inside. The Libraries are automatically placed as subfolders where the Analyst Application is located when first launched. © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction The “Analyst Files Library” is where Analyst normally places a file created when a Dive Computer is attached to the PC and data is extracted. This file is referred to as an “Analyst File” or a “.can File”. The default file name consists of the first two characters of the Dive Computer Type followed by the six digit Serial Number of the attached unit followed by the file extension “.can” (which means Cochran Analyst File). However, when extracting data, a different file name can be entered, but this could create a problem if the new file name is not remembered. When extracting, if an existing file does NOT exist, a new one is created. If the file DOES exist, the new extracted data is appended onto the existing file. For example, if a file was previously created with 100 dives in it and the diver just did three new dives and then attached the unit, only the last three dives would be extracted and appended onto that existing file making the file be 103 dives long. However, if the diver changed the file name after extracting the 100 dives, Analyst will recognize that a new file must be created and make one with all 103 dives extracted for that new file. Continuously appending to an existing file is usually much faster than always creating a new one every time. The data within the Analyst File is encrypted so do not attempt to edit the file. Unrecoverable errors will occur. Analyst Files Library © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction The “Divers Library” is where Analyst places each Divers personal information that was entered via the “Divers” Button on the Main Screen. This file is referred to as a “Divers File” or a “.dvr File”. The file name from the divers “Short Name” box in the Divers Entry Form with the extension of “.dvr” added. Changing a file name manually without changing it via the Divers Button can make the file inaccessible by Analyst. If Analyst is used by only one Diver, there may only be one name in the Library. However, multiple divers can be entered. The Diver Teams function gets its list of divers from this Library. This file is encrypted and can only be accessed by Analyst, and then has a Password that was created on the Divers entry form. The data within the Divers File is encrypted so do not attempt to edit the file. Unrecoverable errors will occur. Divers Library © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction The “Diver Teams Library” is where Analyst places the collection of members in a Team. The Team name is the file name in this Library and is referred to as the “Team File”. was members each Team of Divers personal information that was entered via the “Divers” Button on the Main Screen. This file is referred to as a “Divers File” or a “.dvr File”. The file name from the divers “Short Name” box in the Divers Entry Form with the extension of “.dvr” added. Changing a file name manually without changing it via the Divers Button can the file inaccessible by Analyst. While the data within the Team File is not encrypted, the precise placement and size of each data element is critical. Do not attempt to edit the file. Unrecoverable errors may occur. This feature is available only on the Teams Edition of Analyst. Dive Teams Library © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction The “Dive Sites Library” is where Analyst places the Dive Site of a dive that was entered using the Logbook function. When multiple divers are using one PC to create or add to a Logbook where a common dive site is used, it can be easily copied from this Library into other divers Logbooks. When storing a Site, the name will be requested. Each Site file name will have the file extension “.sit” appended to it. While the data within the Team File is not encrypted, the precise placement and size of each data element is critical. Do not attempt to edit the file. Unrecoverable errors may occur. This feature is available only on the Professional Edition of Analyst. Dive Sites Library © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction The “Gas Switches Library” is for the divers convenience to store different Gas Switching Scenarios that can be recalled and put into a Dive Computer. These scenarios are stored and retrieved via the Gas Switching Page of the Configuration function. When storing a Gas Switching Scenario, the name of the file will be requested. Each file name will have the file extension “.gas” appended to it. While the packed data within the Gas Switches File is not encrypted, the precise placement and size of each data element is critical. Do not attempt to edit the file. Unrecoverable errors will probably occur. Gas Switches Library © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc.

Analyst ® 5 Introduction Attaching Analyst USB Module and Cable © 2016 Cochran Consulting, Inc. For the LIFEGUARD family of Hoseless units, turn the Cylinder Unit on its back so the three metal contacts are facing up. Mate the ANALYST cable assembly springs to those contacts. The ANALYST wire must be in the same direction as the high pressure transducer wire. Wrap the elastic cloth strap around the unit and tighten to hold the ANALYST cable assembly securely to the Cylinder Unit. Ensure that the other cable end is plugged into the desired USB Port on your PC. For 'WRIST Style' units such as the LIFEGUARD Receiver Unit, hold with the three contacts on the right side and the display can be read. Attach the ANALYST cable assembly so the three metal mating receptacles match. The wire should be pointing toward you. Wrap the cloth strap around the unit and tighten to hold the ANALYST cable assembly securely to the Cochran product. Ensure that the other cable end is plugged into the desired USB Port on your PC.
