6 Lexical features of the language of tourism The most widely investigated distinctive feature of specialized lexis is monoreferntiality. The need foe a single referent generally means that users are forced to create new terms rather than use existing terminology in order to define new concepts such as the latest types of services offered or new tasks for the people involved in this sector. 7 Conciseness Another highly regarded criterion applied to word formation by specialists is conciseness, that is to say that concepts are expressed in the shortest possible forms. This leads to a reduction of merging two lexems into a single term.
