The Emergency Planning Society Formed in 1993 through the merger of the Emergency Planning Association and the County Emergency Planning Officers Society Aim is to promote effective emergency planning and management, and to promote the professional interests of its members Is regularly consulted by Government on the development of policy

A resilience picture Prior to the CCA the profession still had a strong response and command and control focus The CCA started to change that Post CCA Resilience is moving away from an organisational focus to a focus on people Mature partnerships still exist there but new partners are getting involved e.g. Social care, Business (Particularly SMEs) & the Community (‘Big Society’ future)

5. A new picture These changes bring new challenges The Emergency Planning Society needs to change and is undergoing that change We need a modern professional body to help us deal with the challenges

6. A new vision A Vision for the EPS in 2013 ‘An internationally recognised professional body, advocating and advising emergency management and civil protection policies and practices at all levels’. On the threshold of Chartered Institute status Developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders at local, regional and national level to improve civil protection standards and community resilience Engaging with the general public both at national and community level, applying expertise to tackle the wider determinants of community vulnerability to emergency challenges by identifying and seeking to control current and future risk generators Seeking to ‘internationalise’ further

7. Mission Build Greater Resilience in the Communities We Serve –Building competence in our membership –Work with stakeholders to build this into a recognised standard –Increase our sphere of influence –Seek to engage further in the ‘Big Society’ agenda

8. The Result UK resilience profession will be recognised internationally The profession will mature with robust partnership with stakeholders at all levels And ultimately ……
