General Suggestions for Group Interviews Be prepared for confusion and noise Learn who the panelists are ahead of time Appear Confident and in control Make your answers direct, brief, honest and sincere

Specific Suggestions for Panel Interview Speak to everyone, not just the interviewer Take an active role but don’t always speak first

Specific Suggestions for Board Interviews If possible, sit where you won’t have to constantly move your head back and forth to see all the interviewers. Make eye contact with all interviewers and not just the person who asks a questions. Stick by your answers

Suggestions if you are interviewed by telephone (Ceniza-Levine,2009;Hentz,2009; Needleman, 2009a, 2009b) Prepare the same way you would for a face-to-face interview. Opening Phase – is just as essential for understanding as the introduction. Rapport – a comfortable feeling that makes both participants receptive to the interview Orientation - overall view of the interview. Motivation - motivate the interviewee to give straightforward, complete answer.

Try to relax and be yourself If a question catches you off guard, don’t rush unprepared into an answer. If you don’t know or cant remember certain information, say so. Use open ended questions to present information you want the interviewer to know. Listen carefully to hypothetical questions. Be attentive to the interviewer’s when direct or specific questions are asked. Avoid answering yes or no to a loaded question Beware of leading questions
