CJA 394 Week 3 DQ 1 Recently, our society has supported a get tough policy on juvenile crime. States decreased the ages at which a juvenile could be treated as an adult for any crime. States have also charged juveniles as adults when they commit the crime of murder as young as 12. The US Supreme Court has curtailed this get tough position as of late with recent decisions outlawing the use of the death penalty for anyone under the age of 18 at the time of the crime and their most recently outlawing mandatory life sentences even in the cases of murder. Discuss what states should do regarding juveniles. Is the current juvenile system working sufficiently or should states continue to get tough? What kinds of punishments should juveniles face for felony crimes?
