Introduction to MANET MANETs are wireless networks consisting of dynamic nodes that are self-configurable and infrastructure-less[1]. Ad-hoc networks are basically peer-to-peer multi-hop mobile wireless networks where information packets are transmitted in a “store-and- forward” manner from a source to destination, via intermediate nodes. Introduction to cross layer approach “Cross layer design is a concept to modern protocol that communicate in network virtually between layers and their boundaries”[7]. Literature Review Paper 1 (base) “An Efficient Congestion Control Scheme Using Cross-Layered Approach and Comparison of TCP Variants for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs)” AuthorSneha V. Sangolli, Jayavignesh Thyagarajan Publication & Year IEEE 2014 Summary In this paper, they used TCP-Tahoe, TCP-New Reno and TCP-Vegas, run over AODV routing protocol for congestion control. It is discussed that every packet loss is considered as a sign of congestion and unnecessary retransmissions and slowing down the sending rate results in poor performance. None of the TCP variants able to work proactively to avoid packet loss, so here cross layer approach is applied to identify correct network event. Literature Review Paper 2 (base) “Performance of OLSR in MANETs with Cross-Layer Metrics and TCP/UDP flows” AuthorM. Colizza, M. Pratesi, F. Santucci, S. Pollio, G. Rigazzi Publication & Year IEEE 2012 Summary Here in this paper they have focused on investigate traffic related performance for TCP/UDP-based traffic flows in a MANET by OLSR with various routing metrics. Here they have worked on PER based metrics and also used cross layer approach to improve robustness against changes in network mobility to evaluate performance in the traffic condition. Literature Review Paper 3“Performance Comparison of TCP variants over AODV, DSDV, DSR, OLSR in NS-2” AuthorMd. Monzur Morshed, Meft ah Ur Rahman, Md. Habibur Rahman, Md. Rafiqul Islam Publication & Year IEEE 2012 Summary In this paper, analysis of TCP variation such as Reno, New-Reno, Vegas, and Tahoe under routing protocol AODV, DSDV, DSR, OLSR discussed. They have used QoS metrics such as drop, throughput, delay, and jitter for performance compression. Literature Review Paper 4“A Cross Layer Routing Matric for Gateway Aware Routing in Wireless Mesh Network” AuthorNarayan D. G., Kumar Sugnani, Abhishek Raichur, Uma M Publication & Year IEEE 2013 Summary In this paper they have focused on network gateway for optimization operation. They have proposed a new metric for gateway routing by using cross layer approach and OLSR routing protocol. It gives better throughput and average end-to-end delay compare to load aware expected transmission time(LAETT). Literature Review Paper 5“A Cross-Layer Design Approach in OLSR MANET using BER and Weighted Connectivity Index” AuthorTeerapat Sanguankotchakorn, Sanika K. Wijayasekara, Nobuhiko Sugino Publication & Year IEEE 2013 Summary In this paper they have proposed the heuristic approach based on cross layer design to enhanced performance of OLSR by using BER derived from physical layer together with network layer parameter weighted connectivity index(CI). They have used throughput, PDR, average end-to-end delay as a performance metric. They have concluded that cross layer framework enhances OLSR protocol by considering link quality in terms of BER from physical layer and CI from network layer. 3/6/2017ME SEM-3 DP-1 PRESENTATION11

Research gap From the literature survey it has been observed that packet loss is considered a reason for congestion. None of the TCP variants and network layer protocol works proactively to avoid packet loss. We also observed that cross layer approach along with routing protocol OLSR can be used to optimize performance in packet loss situation. Earlier research never used OLSR along with cross layer approach to avoid congestion. 3/6/2017ME SEM-3 DP-1 PRESENTATION12

Related work Disconnection, link layer contention, buffer over – flow are one of the reason for packet loss results in congestion. For resolve this various TCP variants and routing protocols are used but none of the gives satisfactorily output. As an alternative to communicate directly between layers, cross layer approach is useful. Similarly OLSR used at many places as its proactive nature. 3/6/2017ME SEM-3 DP-1 PRESENTATION13

Proposed work An analysis the cross layer approach with OLSR routing protocol over TCP variants. Using these three calculate high throughput and low delay(end-to-end delay) for packet transmission. The simulation environment developed using ns-2. 3/6/2017ME SEM-3 DP-1 PRESENTATION14

Conclusion and Further work Here we use transport layer and network layer collaborating with data link layer. OLSR routing protocol with cross layer approach using TCP variants by using high throughput and low delay(end to end delay) for congestion control in packet transmission environment. 3/6/2017ME SEM-3 DP-1 PRESENTATION15
