C ONCEPT DESIGN Concept Design - This phase involves the creation of a range of concepts that offer key benefits and are in response to information presented in the brief and gathered in the previous stages. The output of this stage is usually a sketchbook of conceptual design ideas showing progression of thinking. Design options in terms of complexity, innovation and differentiation.
4
Basically, conceptual design is the very first stage of the product design process, where drawings and other illustrations or models are used. It serves to provide a description of the proposed product, in terms of a set of integrated ideas and concepts about what it should do, behave and look like in a way that is understandable for users.a description of the proposed product It is the design of interactions, experiences, processes and strategies.
5
W HAT IS DETAILED DESIGN ? Detailed design is the phase where the design is refined and plans, specifications and estimates are created.the phase where the design is refined Detailed design can include outputs such as 2D and 3D models, cost build up estimates, procurement plans etc. E.g. Toyoto cruiser detailed design 3D model This phase is where the full cost of the project is identified in most cases.
6
C ONCURRENT ENGINEERING Meaning - A method of designing and developing products, in which the different stages run simultaneously, rather than consecutively. Concurrent engineering is a business strategy which replaces the traditional product development process with one in which tasks are done in parallel and there is an early consideration for every aspect of a product's development process. This strategy focuses on the optimization and distribution of a firm's resources in the design and development process to ensure effective and efficient product development process.

C OLLABORATIVE ENGINEERING Collaborative -D escribes the form of cooperation between involved organizational units of various companies in respect of processes and use of IT systems Engineering - Embraces all technical activities in the context of product development. Covers all activities between company organizations and partners in the course of joint development projects based on a defined reference process model and including IT support.

O PERATION - HOW IT WORKS
13
F IVE KEY REASONS WHY MANUFACTURES NEED C OLLABORATIVE ENGINEERING 1.Collaborative engineering enables manufacturers to ‘design anywhere manufacture anywhere’. 2.Collaborative engineering facilitates globalized concurrent product development. 3.Collaborative engineering enables improved part traceability and part proliferation.
14
4.Collaborative engineering supports efficient change management. 5.Collaborative engineering drives better resource utilization.
15
BENEFITS Multistage engineering Global manufacturing having significant impact in the product strategy. Strategies have advantages- -reduced time to market - improved efficiency - access to newer markets. Increased productivity.
