3 STEPS TO A TAX RETURN Customer completes interview sheets (more on this later) YOU input that information into the program Customer chooses how to receive refund You quote the taxpayer their refund AFTER FEES including their State refund

STEPS TO A TAX RETURN You print out two signature pages: IRS Form 8879 E-Collect Bank Application HAVE THEM SIGNED THEY LOOK LIKE THIS:

5 IRS 8879 SIGNATURE PAGE Show where they as well as taxpayer sign. They have this in there handout also.

Go over where client signs. After this slide, show software. Go over Portal, links, and go through a few simple returns.

10 HOW TO MAKE IT EASIER Check the status of each return throughout the day Check to see the return has been Accepted or Rejected by the IRS The next page shows a sample of the “Status” screen in the tax program

13 WHAT IS A REJECTION ? A REJECTION is a return that has been “rejected” by the IRS due to incorrect information YOU NEED TO FOLLOW UP AND FIX! Gather the correct information and resubmit the return The clock starts over! Explain how to prevent rejections by getting correct info up front, also explain how this year simply click on rejected returns to see rejected returns, no acks to process.

14 TOP REASONS FOR REJECTIONS
Misspelled last names Incorrect year of birth Wrong social security numbers Wrong EIN # on W-2 Maiden name / Married name

15 FIXING A REJECTION Verify that YOU did not input the wrong information
Call the taxpayer. Verify the information they gave you. If nothing new is found, the customer needs to call the Social Security Administration Once you obtain the correct information, simply open the return, make the changes and re-send to ATS

17 If a return has been accepted by the IRS and you need to make a change
An amendment costs the taxpayer $50, collect the fee UP FRONT The amendment prints on a 1040X, it will print from the same place as the original tax return Taxpayer needs to sign and mail in
