2 Tuesday, January 10 – NCS Office reopens to public
When Classes Begin for the Spring Semester January 2017 Tuesday, January 3 – Senior Start Day for 2nd semester; assumes no 2nd semester holidays Tuesday, January 10 – NCS Office reopens to public Thursday, January 12 – Thursday Classes resume; some students moving into higher groups Friday, January 13 – Math Clinic (1-3 pm) and Biology (3:30-5:30) resume. Monday, January 16 – Spring Drama (6:30-8:30) {Script memorized by Jan 23!}

3 For Grades 9-12: Mandatory Event
Saturday January 14 Mandatory Activity for grades 9-12 10 a.m. to 12:00 Geocaching: Teams compete to find all the caches. Winners get prizes. Come dressed to be in the outdoors Closed toe shoes; Long pants; Jacket Pen & small pad of paper About 4-6 very small (1-1.5”) trinkets (per team member & driver) Bottle of water Bug spray/sunscreen Camera 1 Charged Phone with GPS (one per team) No children under 6th grade, and must be siblings. I need 3-4 drivers (adults/non-students only). Call the office if you are willing to be a driver and can carry at least 3 students in your car. For Grades 9-12: Mandatory Event

Friday, January 29 – Art Contests Deadline Art Contest Themes 1. Scherenschnitte 1: 2-dimensional scene: Includes something that flies in the scene. 2. Scherenschnitte 2: 3-dimensional scene: Includes one tree in the scene. 3. Pen and Ink (black ink only): Ocean Creature (actual, not made up) 4. Painting and Drawing: Ocean Turtles 5. Photography: Old Person’s or Persons’ Hands 6. Sculpture: Ocean Creature (actual, not made up) 7. Moving Sculpture: It walks/moves without electrical or solar power and may use wind power 8. The Masters: Select a painting from the Art Appreciation Contest , and use it to make a copy of that piece in paint or colored pencils or crayon. 9. February 2017 Thursday, February 2 – Groundhog’s Day We are asking that the students wear some sort of crazy hat they have created at home to represent Groundhog’s Day. It could be: For Thursday Classes Students

16 Tuesday, February 7 – Literature Fair
Mandatory Participation for grades K-8; grades K-8th; optional for grades 9-12 Project Drop-offs and Judging: noon to 3 pm Tuesday, February 7 – Literature Fair Awards Announced; Mandatory attendance by student & at least one parent,; 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Missing mandatory attendance meetings results in a $50 fine per family. Project Non-participation fees for School Fairs are a $40 fine per student. For full information, see school website, >Media>PowerPoints>Literature Fair Between January 15th and February 1st: Students school office to let us know the title & author of the book they will use. Students cannot change books after they have ed their book(s) title(s) to us. Use THIS address: and THIS subject line: Lit Fair topic All books must be title-named books from the NCS Reading Contest Lists. That is, the actual title must be on the Reading Contest Book List for your student’s grade level or above his/her grade level.
