1 WELCOME TO PICKLEBALL!

2 ABOUT PICKLEBALL

3 PICKLEBALL: One of the fastest growing sports in the USA!
Pickleball is a court sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played on a surface one-third the size of a regulation tennis court, with a net lowered to 34 inches. Players use a paddle and a polymer ball, similar to a whiffle ball. The game was established in 1965, and has grown exponentially across North America, with burgeoning audiences in Europe, India and Asia as well. Because the game is fast-paced and appeals to a wide range of ages, the USAPA conservatively estimates there are 2,000,000-2,500,000 dedicated Pickleball players in the United States today! Growth of pickleball is estimated to reach 8 million by the end of 2018. The USAPA is tracking approximately 40 new Pickleball facilities in the U.S. every month! At the beginning of 2013, there were 1,700 pickleball venues. As of June 2016, there are over 4,300. The number of pickleball courts in North America has increased from 2,309 in 2010 to 10,000 in 2016…. an increase of over 400% in just six years! The USAPA currently has a network of over 1,200 ambassadors who are actively teaching and promoting the game in communities all over the United States. Source: SFIA 2016; USAPA.org

Note: there is no shortage of instructors or players, there is the shortage of public places to play

8 PICKLEBALL: Pecos Park
Court Needs (Its important to show current activities and events that you can or have held, show that court usage will increase) What has been accomplished: Below are samples that happened in PHX First Park District offering of beginner classes (2 sessions 32 openings were filled in a few days) Meetup of players on Saturday nights (average 35 players) several beginners have also heard about pickleball and played We have met a few tennis players, they are now pickleball players Battle of The Paddle Tournaments (3 in total) The last tournament had 138 registered players who played over 270 matches in 3 days…This is the only tournament in the City of Phoenix New Horizons School, a school at 48th St and Frye, approached us asking to introduce and teach pickleball…they saw us playing one weekday

9 PICKLEBALL: Pecos Park
What can happen if Pecos Park is converted to 8 pickleball courts (Show what the future can look like with courts, new or converted Key takeaways should be that there will lbe activity at the park, which would help prevent non-usage or decay, and create a safe environment) 2 or more tournaments a year Additional players (higher tier and more publicity) Tournament can increase to a 4th day , estimate 200+ players USAPA sanctioning of the park Additional vendors Tax or space revenue User fee charged to players at tournaments Increased play time for general public Increased lessons for general public Increased revenue stream to the community center and park All this can be managed without city personnel

10 PICKLEBALL: Pecos Park
What WILL happen if nothing is done The tennis courts will remain empty and become a bigger eye sore to the community (Insert a photo of the empty, unused tennis courts)
