Lesson 6

2. 1st Seal
When the Lamb broke each of the first four seals, one of the living creatures said, “Come” and there was a rider on a horse.
White horse: Has a bow and a crown given to him
He came out conquering and to conquer

3. 2nd Seal After the Lamb breaks open the seal Red horse
Rider granted/permitted to take peace from the earth so that means war comes
Men slay each other
Great sword given to the rider

4. 3rd Seal After the Lamb breaks open the seal Black horse
Rider has a pair of scales
Something like a voice came from the midst of the four living creatures (who are in the center around the throne continually saying, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, Who was and Who is and Who is to come” 4:6-8) saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius…..”
A denarius was a day’s wages
Perhaps this refers to a food shortage after war
Not permitted to harm the oil and wine

5. 4th Seal After the Lamb breaks open the seal Ashen/pale horse
Rider had the name Death; and Hades was following with him.
They were given authority to kill ¼ of the earth with sword, famine, pestilence and wild beasts
These were the results of war and famine
¼ of the earth’s population dies

6. 5th Seal DIFFERENT John saw souls under the altar
Souls of those who had been slain on earth because of: God’s Word and because of the testimony which they had maintained. (they stood at their post)
“How long until You avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth? (Their murderers were still on the earth!)
Souls were given a white robe
Told to rest a little while longer
Other brothers and sisters still to be killed
WHEN the number is complete, THEN the Lord will avenge their blood

7. 6th Seal After the Lamb breaks open the seal
Great earthquake affects the whole earth
Sun black as sackcloth made of hair (eclipse?)
Moon like blood
Stars fell
Sky split apart/vanished like a scroll being rolled up
Every island and mountain moved out of place
Men hid because the Great Day of God’s Wrath and the Lamb’s Wrath had come and no one can stand
This seal is more severe than #1-5

8. 7th Seal This does NOT immediately follow the 6th Seal
The vision of the 144,000 sealed on earth and the multitude in heaven comes BETWEEN the 6th and 7th seals
After the Lamb breaks open the seal
Silence. In heaven. For ½ hour
Seven trumpets given to 7 angels
Another angel adds incense to the prayers of the saints, fills it with fire from the altar and throws it to earth.
Smoke of the altar and the prayers go up before God
Thunder, Rumblings, Lightning and Earthquake

9. Time references Each seal seems to reveal more severe judgment
The seven trumpets from the 7th seal come from the Lamb breaking it open
So is the timing of the trumpets and the seals sequential or simultaneous?
Seems to be one right after the other which would indicate sequential NOT simultaneous.

10. 1st Trumpet Angel sounds the trumpet
Hail, fire and blood mixed together are thrown to the earth
1/3 of the earth is burned up
1/3 of the trees are burned up
ALL grass is burned up
Similar to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Trumpets in that 1/3 of something on earth is affected
First four seals are also similar with riders on horses and their judgments affecting the earth

11. 2nd Trumpet Angel sounds the trumpet
“Burning mountain” thrown into the sea
1/3 of the sea becomes blood
1/3 of the living sea creatures die
1/3 of the ships are destroyed

12. 3rd Trumpet Angel sounds the trumpet
A burning star named Wormwood falls from heaven
1/3 of the fresh waters become bitter
Many people die
Similarity in the first three trumpets in that something with fire or burning is thrown from heaven to the earth and affects 1/3 of the earth

13. 4th Trumpet Angel sounds the trumpet
1/3 of the sun, moon and stars are struck
The sun doesn’t shine for 1/3 of the day
Moon and stars don’t shine for 1/3 of the night

14. Comparisons
Seals: A conquering on earth by the rider of the white horse followed by war, famine, Death and Hades
Souls call for vengeance
Trumpets AND Seals:
Sun, moon, stars and sky produce less light (4th trumpet and 6th seal)
1/3 of the earth is burned up (1st trumpet and 7th seal)
Heavenly lights are affected (6th seal, 3rd and 4th trumpets)
