2. Why Study Abroad?
World Learning – a portfolio of opportunities abroad designed specifically for undergraduates – goes far beyond the stereotypical image of study abroad. JHU Programs Abroad provide a variety of study, research, internship, and service opportunities integrated into the four-year curriculum of the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) and the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences (KSAS).

Over 33% of JHU undergraduates will study or engage in academic experiences abroad before graduating
Over 400 students receive credit for study abroad courses each year
Over 100 students participate in non-credit academic activities abroad each year
Pre-med, engineering, and transfer students CAN study abroad
Study Abroad can fulfill major and minor requirements
Study Abroad counts as “residential” credit
Financial aid may be used for study abroad programs approved through JHU.

10. Eligibility
GPA of 3.0 or higher AND good academic and disciplinary standing
As early as spring semester sophomore year and as late as fall semester senior year
First-year students may apply for Intersession and Summer Programs Abroad
Some Programs have additional requirements:
Higher term and cumulative GPA
Language proficiency
Pre-requisite coursework
Host department approval

11. Costs: More or Less than JHU…
Non-Hopkins Semester/Summer/Intersession:
Total Cost = Program Cost + 12% JHU Tuition
($209/credit)
Hopkins Programs Semester, Summer &
Intersession:
JHU Tuition plus mandatory fees, if any.
Intersession & Summer Programs have inclusive
fees
Financial Aid may be applied to all approved
Semester and Year Study Abroad Programs
Additional scholarships available for summer and
intersession programs: Study Abroad grants; FLAS;
Named grants and others.

12. A Few Words of Advice
Start planning early – especially if you are a science or engineering major
Discuss study abroad plans with parents/students and share information on academics, health, safety, and finances
Enroll in courses to prepare for study abroad
Consult with advisors to map out how study abroad fits into your major and your overall degree plan
