Jesus used the illustration of an oil lamp to discuss our responsibilities as Christians.
Today’s song uses the same illustration to indicate our responsibility to spread the word throughout the world – Because we are the light of the world.

16. Do Not Hide Your Light
Matthew 5: You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven

17. A City Set On A Hill
Villages in Palestine at that time were typically situated on hills and could be seen from a great distance.
Christians should be noticeable in just that kind of way.

18. Hide It Under A Bushel?
Luke 11:33-36 – “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its ray.”

20. Go Shine!
Matthew 5:16 -- Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

21. Reflecting The Lord’s Light
John 8:12 -- Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

22. Regardless Of What They Think
John 3:19 -- This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.

23. Keeping Our Commission
Matthew 28:19 -- Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

24. Changing The World With Our Light
Isaiah 60:1-3 – Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to the light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.”

25. Don’t Let Your Light Burn Low
Don’t let the devil POOF it out.
1 Peter 5:8 -- Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

26. So we can expose darkness
Ephesian 5:8-13
Once darkness, now light in the Lord
Walk as children of the light
Learn what is pleasing to the Lord
Do not participate in evil deeds but instead expose them
Things become visible when exposed to the light….

27. Through The Gospel
2 Corinthian 4:6 -- For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
