2. What Are We Doing Today?
Today, we are going to create a homemade lava lamp by trying to mix oil and water and making it bubble with alka seltzer

3. Hypothesis Try to answer these questions:
What will happen when we pour oil and water in the same glass? Will they mix together to make one liquid? Or will they stay as two separate liquids?
What happens when we put alka seltzer in oil?
What happens when we put alka seltzer in water?

4. Materials
Vase
Water
Oil
Food coloring
Alka Seltzer

5. Procedure Pour water into the vase (about a quarter full)
Pour oil into the vase (until the vase is about ¾ full)
Add food coloring
Add ¼ of an alka seltzer. Write down what happens?

6. Conclusion Was your hypothesis correct? If not, why?
Did the oil and water mix? Why?
What happened when we added alka seltzer? Where did the alka seltzer go afterwards?
