VOICES UNITED 469 “We Gather Here (Come, Share the Lord)” Divernon Words and Music: Bryan Jeffery Leech (1984)

We gather here In Jesus’ name His love is burning in our hearts Like living flame; For through the loving Son, God fashions us as one: Come take the bread, Come drink the wine, Come share the Lord.

No one is a stranger here — Everyone belongs; Finding our forgiveness, We in turn forgive all wrongs.

He joins us here, He breaks the bread, The One who pours the cup Is risen from the dead; The One we love the most Is now our gracious host: Come take the bread, Come drink the wine, Come share the Lord.

We are now a family Of which Christ is the head; Though unseen he meets us here In the breaking of the bread.

We’ll gather soon Where angels sing; We’ll see the glory of Our Lord and coming King; Now we anticipate The feast for which we wait: Come take the bread, Come drink the wine, Come share the Lord.

“The Lord’s My Shepherd”
HYMN Please stand VOICES UNITED 747 “The Lord’s My Shepherd” Crimmon Words: Scottish Psalter(1650) Music: Jessie Seymour Irvine (1872)

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; he leadeth me The quiet waters by.

My soul he doth restore again; And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness E’en for his own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For thou art with me; and thy rod And staff me comfort still.

My table thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head thou dost with oil annoint, And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life Will surely follow me, And in God’s house forevermore My dwelling place shall be.

STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE John Teed

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy God, in earth, sea, and sky, you are there;
We come before God, acknowledging our struggles, our brokenness, and our faults, and trusting in the love of the risen Christ. Let us pray to God: Holy God, in earth, sea, and sky, you are there; in everything we touch, in everyone we meet, your presence is around us.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION You we have not touched but trampled in creation;
you we have not met but missed in one another; you we have not received but rejected in the poor and outcast. The Iona Community (Silent confession)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION And so we pray: Lord, have mercy. RESPONSE: LORD, HAVE MERCY. Christ, have mercy. CHRIST, HAVE MERCY. Lord, have mercy. LORD, HAVE MERCY. Mother God, blessed Jesus, Holy Spirit, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND HEAL OUR HEARTS.

FIRST READING ACTS 2: 42 – 47 Life among the Believers They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.

FIRST READING Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Hear what the Spirit is saying to her church. RESPONSE: THANKS BE TO GOD.

PSALM 116: 1 – 4, 12 – 19 (VU p. 749) RESPONSE: MY SHEPHERD IS THE LORD; NOTHING INDEED SHALL I WANT. God is my shepherd. THERE IS NOTHING I SHALL LACK. You, God, make me lie down in green pastures. YOU LEAD ME BESIDE PEACEFUL WATERS; You revive my spirit, YOU GUIDE ME IN RIGHT PATHWAYS FOR YOUR NAME’S SAKE. MY SHEPHERD IS THE LORD;

PSALM Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you are with me. YOUR ROD AND YOUR STAFF ARE MY COMFORT. You spread a table for me in the sight of my enemies; YOU ANNOINT MY HEAD WITH OIL; MY CUP IS OVERFLOWING. Surely, your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, AND I WILL DWELL IN GOD’S HOUSE MY WHOLE LIFE LONG. MY SHEPHERD IS THE LORD; NOTHING INDEED SHALL I WANT.

GOSPEL READING JOHN 10: 1 – 10 Jesus the Good Shepherd “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

GOSPEL READING So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” The Gospel of Jesus Christ. RESPONSE: PRAISE TO CHRIST THE WORD.

“Let Us Build a House (All Are Welcome)”
HYMN Please stand MORE VOICES 1 “Let Us Build a House (All Are Welcome)” Two Oaks Words and Music: Marty Haugen (1994)

Let us build a house where Love can dwell And all can safely live, A place where saints and children tell How hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, Rock of faith and vault of grace; Here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, And words are strong and true, Where all God’s children dare to seek To dream God’s reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witness And as symbol of God’s grace; Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found In water, wine, and wheat; A banquet hall on holy ground, Where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, Is revealed in time and space; As we share in Christ the feast that feeds us: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach Beyond the wood and stone To heal and strengthen, serve and teach, And live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger Bear the image of God’s face; Let us bring an end to fear and danger: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, Their songs and visions heard And love and treasured, taught and claimed As words within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, Prayers of faith and songs of grace; Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome, all are welcome, All are welcome in this place.
