Section 22.1 Child Care Options
Parents who need substitute child care for their children must decide whether home-based care or center-based care is best for the needs of their child.

Substitute Care There are many types of substitute child care.
Two general settings include home-based care and center-based care. Each state has its own agency that licenses child care centers. license An official printed document that gives permission, such as one from the state that indicates child care providers meet health and safety standards.

Substitute Care Many parents need substitute care for their school-age children before and after school and during holidays, breaks, and summers.

Choosing Substitute Child Care
Many factors must be considered when choosing substitute child care. There are several issues specific to home-based care that parents should consider. Parents should write a list of questions to ask when searching for the right child care facility for their child. List some questions you might ask when considering home-based care.
