6. IP Sec VPN Service Definition
IPsec VPN is a PCI compliant managed WAN solution to securely connect all your locations on a high bandwidth network.
Here is a simple definition of what the IPsec VPN service is.

7. Design Option 1: Host-based configuration
Aggregation at your HQ/ Data Center
There are multiple way to configure your network design, and I’m going to illustrate 4 of the most common deployments.
The commonality of all configurations is that each of your store locations or other business sites includes an on premises router and firewall. These are the devices that create the IPSec encrypted tunnels that traverse the Internet to your aggregation device.
Another point that I’d like to emphasize in all configurations is the you select the ISP and type of access for the internet connection, based on your bandwidth needs and ISP options at each location. You can select Ethernet, DSL, Cable, T1, Wireless – it doesn’t matter. EarthLink can supply the access circuits if we are cost competitive, but there is no requirement to purchase any Internet access from us.
The most basic configuration is hosting the IPsec aggregation device in the your own facility. This can be the data center or HQ location of your choice.

8. Design Option2: Cloud-based Aggregation
Aggregation in the Cloud
Another option is utilize an EarthLink aggregation device in the cloud that is operated by EarthLink and has built in redundancy. In this design your HQ or data canter operates just like any other location. This might be an ideal solution if you don’t want the space or staff to host this device internally.

9. Design Option 3: Single site High Availability
Real-time auto failover – if primary aggregation device goes down
Aggregation at your HQ/Datacenter
If Business Continuity is a high priority for your business, we have two High Availability options.
The Single Site High Availability option deploys two aggregation devices at your data center location. The routers are configured to send traffic to the primary aggregator, and if that aggregator fails, the on-premises routers at each location automatically failover to send traffic to the secondary aggregation device.
This provides redundancy for the network as a whole.
So what if you need redundancy at any given location? You can utilize a secondary Internet Access at critical locations. This could be a DSL or Wireless backup connection. As before this can be provided by the ISP or our choice or by EarthLink (we offer nationwide 4G/3G wireless coverage)

10. Design Option 4: Dual Site High Availability
Real-time auto failover — geographic diversity if aggregation site goes off-line
Aggregation at two unique locations — your Data Centers
The Site Redundancy option provides an even higher level of businesses continuity protection because the secondary aggregation device can be placed in a geographically diverse location.
This protects your network from a regional disaster or outage that might compromise an entire data center.
And again the routers are configured for real-time auto failover.
