Parenting is a learning process with many demands and rewards. There are many decisions that must be made before and during parenthood.

4 Preparation for Parenthood
Being a parent is one of the most important roles a person has in life. To be ready for parenting, a person needs to have a strong sense of commitment and desire to be a parent, a person needs to have emotional maturity to handle the changes and demands of parenthood, be aware of their own health (risks under 17 and over 35), remember it is expensive, it takes time, it takes skills, it takes energy, and it takes communication Remember to have reasonable expectations for your child and yourself emotional maturity Being responsible enough to consistently put someone else’s needs before your own needs. parenting The process of caring for children and helping them grow and develop.

5 Preparation for Parenthood
Raising a child is expensive, so managing resources wisely is important for families. There are many ways to learn parenting skills. Parents develop in stages as their children develop.

Pregnant teens’ options include marriage, single parenthood, and adoption. Confidential adoption – birth parents do not know the names of the adoptive parents Open adoption – the birth parents and adoptive parents know something about each other; may possibly even meet each other Teen parents need help to decide what is best for them and their baby. Many teen parents suffer from burnout or depression.

22 Take Responsibility Sexual responsibility means knowing the facts about sexuality, and basing your decisions on values. Having a relationship based on fidelity shows responsibility. fidelity Faithfulness to an obligation, duty, or trust.

Nuclear – a family group with two generations Extended - a family group that includes relatives other than parents and children within a single household Single parent – a family group that consists of one parent and one or more children sharing a household Blended – a family group that consists of a married couple and at least one child from a parent’s previous relationship
