Pompeii Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.
The lava buried Pompeii in time. People say that Pompeii was frozen in time. It was undiscovered for 1700 years. It was found by a man digging in his garden. It is a great tourist attraction in Italy. 2

ROMULUS AND REMUS Romulus and Remus were twins.
Their evil uncle didn’t want them to be king. He threw them into the river Tiber. They were floating down the river until a heavy branch stopped them. Suddenly they started crying. A she wolf looked after them until a shepherd took care of the twins. They started to build a city. Remus didn’t like it so they started to quarrel. Romulus killed Remus.

WARRIORS At first the roman army were made out of volunteers.
In one legion there were 6,000 men The man who was in charge was called a Centurion. They had a way of protecting themselves called the tortoise. The Roman army eventually became unstoppable.

Roman Houses Rich Romans lived in villas , apartments and town houses.
Poor lived in insulas. To heat rooms and water they used a hypocaust. Insulas were built upwards to save space for other buildings in Rome. Rich Romans had mosaics in their homes.

GODS & GODDESSES Gods and goddesses were worshipped in Rome.
They stole the names of gods from the Greeks Jupiter was the most powerful god. Mars was the god of warriors. Minerva was the daughter of Jupiter. Neptune was the god of the sea. The god Janus had 2 heads. Some of the planets names were named after the gods.
