10. How much can I expect to earn?
The average UK salary in IT is 35,000 ( )
This varies hugely according to geographical area and job type
An IT job that has a salary of £50,000 in the City of London could pay only £33,000 in Cheshire
A software architect for security could earn as much as £100,000, while an analyst could take home £45,000
Monster.co.uk is a good place to look for average job salaries
Many IT specialists work as contractors
Day rates for a junior software developer start at around £150 – and go up to around £450 for experienced developers
“Hot” topics can have higher rates

11. How can I prepare now for a career in Computing & IT?
Get creative with computers. Explore computer programming with Python.
Keep taking math classes. Math skills are important in many jobs. Taking these classes will keep your options open.
Take computer science courses. If they are not offered at school you may find them at a local community college.
Study art, language, science, and music. IT employers look for well-rounded employees.
Join after-school computing or technology clubs. Also look for summer computing camps. They’re fun, and you will learn new things.

1200h of study/year (European-wide figure, on any subject)

Ms Imrania Hussain (BSc Business Information Systems) has won UEL inaugural British Computer Society Outstanding Undergraduate Project prize which is awarded by the British Computer Society..
Moustafa Noureddine (PhD student) worked on Cloud Computing Data-centre research funded by Microsoft and the outcome of his work has been converted into a Microsoft tool which is currently used across the Globe. Supervisor was Dr Rabih Bashroush
Fawzi Fawzi (PhD student) worked on creating a secure environment that enable remote access for staff working on highly classified government data and systems such as the ones used at the London Probation Trust has been nominated for the prestigious Butler Award. The project was funded by the London Probation Trust. Supervisor was Dr Rabih Bashroush
“Good Practice Award" by the EU's National Agency goes to the Fighting Cyber Crime project hosted by ACE at UEL during 2010/2011. A group of 40 German students spent 6 weeks at UEL during July and 2011 under the EU Commission Leonardo da Vinci scheme
