Brief Overview The new suite of postgraduate programmes under went validation in April 2015. It provides postgraduate progression routes for students in applied psychology, WCF, criminology, social sciences and policing. It has been designed as a suite of programmes to enable shared modules, interdisciplinary practice and maximise the expertise from the academics in the team There are 100 shared credits across the programme and 80 credits specific to each individual programme. The possible awards will be as follows:

MSc Shared modules Across programmes – multidisciplinary learning
Professional Values and Ethics Ethical and practitioner issues within the workplace Identify complexities that may be encountered in practice and to identify strategies to deal with them Research Skills and Methods Students will be trained in the methods required to design and execute an empirical study including ways to keep the methodology scientific and other research design issues. Dissertation Students may conduct an empirical piece of research (quantitative or qualitative) or conduct an extensive critical review of a body of literature.

Advanced Statistics Skills and knowledge required to analyse and report empirical research in psychology at a level commensurate with postgraduate study Forensic Psychology, Offending Behaviour and CJS Applications of forensic psychology to the processes & practices involved in the investigation & prosecution of criminal offences Settings in forensic psychology Critical approach to a range of assessment tools and intervention programmes used by psychologists in a range of forensic settings Working with specialist populations in forensic settings Developing knowledge and understanding of working with adults, children and young people within specialist populations

Psychological Research Methods
Advanced Statistics Skills and knowledge required to analyse and report empirical research in psychology at a level commensurate with postgraduate study Historical and Philosophical Issues in Psychology Look through science and psychology in a historical sense and move through the history of psychology – being critical Implementing Psychological Research Techniques How we “do” research in psychology including presenting at conferences, writing for journals, applying for research funding. Option

Accreditation The MSc Applied Forensic Psychology pathway has been written and designed as the Stage One of the Chartered Forensic Status. BPS accredited as of 2014 ONLY applicable to those with GBC Other options for those with an interest in forensic psychology but not a desire to pursue Stage 2.

Which programme do I pick?
Differences and similarities in the career options to emerge from the different pathways E.g. Applied Forensic or Psych research methods Many career options and further postgrad study are open to people with an MSc Options to take the PGCerts on to a full MSc Flexibility in terms of transferring Entry Requirements: 2.2. or above for all Applied Forensic also requires GBC

Careers Legal and Crim: probation; YO, victim support or offender management, National Crime Agency, prison drug services, the probation service and offender management, services aimed at victims of DV, mentors for young people coming out of prison, and YO organisations. PhD in either criminology or psychology. Psychological Research Methods – PhD, Research work, App Soc Sci - can lead to a range of rewarding professions such as probation, children’s workforce or research focused jobs in the government or private sector. The flexible nature of the course allows students to gain an MSc that suits their own specific career goals.

Our role is to introduce you to key issues, debates, techniques. Yours is to explore, critically evaluate and try them out. Synthesising and developing subject specialisms It is achievable! It’s no big a jump than Year 2 to 3
