Rome purple slip/sticky printing why? why? why?
6
Rome sends an average of 100 items per day to other libraries
7
Handwriting all the blueslips was time consuming and…
8
Staff (and Lisa) got very very tired
9
They changed to transitting items from the Onshelf Holds screen using a laptop on a cart
10
They changed to transitting items from the Onshelf Holds screen using a laptop on a cart
11
After clicking the button to ‘Put Item In Transit’ the transit slip is automatically printed, stuck on the back of the book and a purple slip is inserted
12
Why the back of the book?? While Rome handles over 100 items a day, the Mid York delivery staff handle an average of 2,000! The Mid York sorting staff requested that the Rome transit stickers be put on the back of the books in order to maintain efficiency when sorting materials.
14
The barcodes are located on the back inside of the books and the most effective routine is to turn the book over to determine its destination. That’s why the Midyork sorters requested the sticker be put on the back.
15
Problems: White stickers are hard to see on some items
White stickers can be difficult to remove Libraries are not removing the stickers so they come back through and it’s not clear whether they are coming or going Added work and expense for Rome to add purple slips
16
Proposed Solution: Rome will purchase blue sticky paper
Rome will leave some of the sticker above the book (or material) that is being sent. The top exposed half is not sticky to the touch, flags the book as a hold, and is easy to remove.
17
I hope this will make everyone very HAPPY!!

The new equipment will provide better management, better connectivity and several new capabilities.
Below are a few of the more important points. A Public Wireless Splash Page: When a user connects to the Public Wireless network they will see a page with a message and a button to continue to the internet. This page can be used to display your wireless policy, internet policy or other message. We provide a basic splash page which can be modified as the library wishes. Wireless Statistics: The new equipment will provide reports including usage statistics for your wireless network. Staff Wireless: The new equipment will provide a second wireless network (separate from the public wireless) for secure staff use only; that is password protected. Bandwidth Management: Along with reporting, the new devices provide better management capabilities that allow a more equal distribution of bandwidth to users and prevents a single user from monopolizing the internet connection.
