2 School Grades Changes for 2015-2016
The school grade is based on the percentage of total points earned Learning gains are included in the computation for the school grades Provisions that may raise or lower a school’s grade beyond what the percentage of points would indicate are eliminated The acceleration components for middle schools includes lagged data for Industry Certifications ( ) The graduation rates and the acceleration components for high school is based on lagged data ( )

Preliminary School Performance Grades M-DCPS, Florida and Selected Districts School Performance Grades A AB ABC Miami-Dade 30% 53% 88% FLORIDA 23% 47% 85% Broward 22% 44% 83% Duval 18% 39% 74% Hillsborough 20% 38% 79% In 2016, 30% of all Miami-Dade schools received “A” ratings, compared to just 23% statewide. Higher percentages of M-DCPS schools received “A” ratings in 2016 than those in other large Florida districts, including Broward, Hillsborough, and Duval. M-DCPS also received higher ratings than the state and these counties when examining the percentage scoring “A” and “B”; and when combined across “A”, “B”, and “C” ratings.

For each school type, M-DCPS schools outpaced schools statewide in the percentage receiving “A” ratings: 25% of M-DCPS elementary schools, compared to 21% statewide 27% of M-DCPS middle schools, compared to 25% statewide 31% of M-DCPS senior high schools, compared to 22% statewide 42% of M-DCPS combination grade schools, compared to 33% statewide Lower percentages of M-DCPS schools received “F” ratings than schools statewide.

Overall, the number of non-charter schools earning D grades decreased from 49 in 2015 to 29 in 2016 (41 percent decrease) Overall, the number of non-charter schools earning F grades decreased from 16 in 2015 to 7 in 2016 (56 percent decrease) The number F schools decreased by almost half in Districts 1 and 2 (13 to 7 schools) There are no longer any F schools in the South Region and there are no F high schools district-wide 14 schools exited the FLDOE’s “Lowest 300” schools list leaving Miami-Dade County as the district with the fewest 300 schools when compared to Broward, Duval and Hillsborough Miami-Dade County Public Schools maintained a school grade of B outperforming Broward, Hillsborough, Duval and Orange in total points earned.
