2 STRUCTURE Three types of fruit categories can be considered.
Simple fruits Aggregate fruits Multiple fruits

3 Simple fruits: Simple fruits are produced from flowers containing just one pistils (contains an ovary). Example of simple fruits are apples, avocadoes, bananas, beans, cherries, olives, peas, tomatoes, walnuts, wheat, etc. The date is a one-seeded berry whose stone is hard nutritive tissue.

4 Aggregate fruits: Aggregate fruits are produced from flowers with multiple pistils. Examples include strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

5 Multiple fruits: Multiple fruits are produced from a number of flowers and include pineapples, black mulberry, and figs.

7 POLLINATORS A pollinator initiates fertilization of a plant by moving pollen from the male anthers of a flower to the female stigma of a flower.  Once fertilized, a plant will produce fruit and/or seeds that will lead to plant reproduction. Pollinators include ants, bees, wasps, beetles, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds to name a few

Water Soluble Substances: sugars, salts, acids, water soluble pigments, and vitamins Fat Soluble Substances: fat, minerals, fat-soluble vitamins Carbohydrates 10-25% on average Sugars, starches, and cellulose Protein .6-2% on average Fat % on average Except for certain fruits, avocadoes at 15% Minerals Low Vitamins Ascorbic Acid: citrus fruits, strawberries, cantaloupe Beta Carotene: yellow fruits, apricot, cantaloupe Folic Acid: citrus, kiwi, strawberries
