2 What is Safety Town? A realistic, child-sized town designed to provide a complete hands-on safety education for children.

3 What is Safety Town? The town has paved streets, working traffic signals, miniature buildings, and even a railroad crossing. Safety Town is designed to be as authentic as possible to provide the most exciting, effective safety training for children available anywhere.

4 The Goal of Safety Town The goal of Safety Town is to reduce accidental injuries and deaths of children through an on-going community-based safety education program. Safety Town focuses on children in kindergarten through second grade, ages 5-8. Public and private schools and children’s groups visit on field trips during the week.

5 A Community Project The Safety Town Program has been created through the support and cooperation of many businesses, public and private agencies, and civic organizations. The children are taught by volunteers, who have been trained by education and safety professionals.

6 Where is Safety Town? Pasco Safety Town is located between Hays Road and Shady Hills Road on State Road 52, On State Road 52, ½ mile west of  The Suncoast Parkway.

7 Safety Station 911 Children are taught when to call 911 and what questions they will be asked by the operator: Reason for call Location of call Name of caller Phone Number of caller One child is selected to make a 911 call, and with their help, an ambulance is dispatched to pick up the pretend victim.

8 Safety Station Stop-Drop-Roll
Here the children are taught what to do if their clothes are on fire. STOP running DROP down, and cover your face ROLL back and forth to put out the fire    Each child gets an opportunity to practice the drill. 

9 Safety Station Stranger - Danger
Questions posed to children: What is a stranger? What to do when approached? What reaction to being grabbed? Impress NEVER go with a stranger!

10 Safety House A realistic, interactive home, equipped with special effects to enhance the learning experience in : Severe Weather Safety Computer Safety General Household Safety Household Fire & Smoke Safety

11 Safety Station Electrical
Children are taught: Stay away from electrical substations Never climb fence to retrieve balls or toys Never touch or pick up wires on ground When you see lightning, go in the house Never go under a tree in a storm

12 Safety Station School Bus
Children are taught: What to do if you drop your books or backpack How to get on & off a bus safely What to do when interior lights go on

13 Safety Station Seat Belts
Everyone wears a seat belt Always enter from the curb No children in front seat (Air Bag) All children learn to “Buckle-Up”

14 Animal Safety Explain to Children: Never pet or feed a wild animal
Watch where you walk – snakes Pets must have 4 things every day Food Water Shelter Love

15 Bicycle Safety Everyone wears a helmet Never ride in the street
Rules for bicycle riding: Everyone wears a helmet Never ride in the street Always walk the bike across the street

16 Water Safety How to get on & off a boat How to put on a life vest
Children are taught: How to get on & off a boat How to put on a life vest To always stay seated in a moving boat Never throw trash in the water

17 Railroad Safety When the gate comes down:
Children stay behind the gate Do not sit on the gate Don not crawl under the gate Do not run around the gate

18 Lunch When the tour is ended, the children are walked to the pavilion for lunch before returning to school.

19 Adult Training Facility Available
Safety Town is also used for meetings and training adults. Our on-site adult training facility, which resembles a Home Depot Store, contains two large classrooms that can easily accommodate up to eighty attendees per classroom. A nominal rental fee is required and inquiries can be made through the Pasco Safety Town coordinator.
