3 Threats/Conduct THREAT – A statement or gesture used to scare someone, cause harm, or damage property Even if you did not mean it – it is still a threat Saying, “I did not mean it” or “I was only joking” does not make it okay Threats could happen anywhere - on the computer, through texting, on the bus, at recess or in your classroom Threats scare people, makes them worry and makes it harder for them to enjoy school and learn

4 Hazing Forcing someone to do something they do not want to do to be a member of the group If you feel this is happening, tell an adult – teacher, principal, counselor, recess teacher, bus driver, parent

5 Harassment Repeated behaviors of: name calling teasing
making fun of people pushing shoving tripping spreading rumors about people not letting a person participate in activities

6 Bullying/Cyberbullying
"A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself."

7 Bullying/Cyberbullying
Bullying - purposeful, intentional, hurtful and persistent Types - electronic (cyberbullying), written, verbal or physical Saying, “I did not mean it” or “I was only joking” does not make it okay Happens on the bus, at lunch/recess, in the classroom - anywhere Makes it harder for a student to learn Is mean and disrespectful Verbal bullying or threat?

8 Bullying/Cyberbullying
What can you do? Tell the bully to stop in a firm, calm voice Walk away from uncomfortable situations Know that it is not your fault Tell adults at home and at school Hang out with people who will let you be you Don't be a bully yourself

9 No Weapons of Any Kind Are Allowed at School!
No knives of ANY kind – this includes pocket knives or Swiss Army Knives No guns of ANY kind – this includes toy guns, Airsoft guns, and water guns No look-alike weapons No weapons that are part of a costume This includes weapons carried on your body or in your clothes or school bag while you are on school property or traveling to or from school.

11 Remember: A “look alike” is considered a weapon
Check your backpack and pockets before you come to school If you feel threatened or bullied or you see someone with a weapon or being bullied, tell an adult immediately We are all responsible for keeping our school safe Hurtful words/actions can affect us for a lifetime

13 School’s Responsibility:
Call to parents Report to the Superintendent Report to police

14 Possible Consequences:
Call to parents – loss of privileges Principal’s Notice Suspension Expulsion Arrest

15 Cell Phones Cell phones are not allowed during the school day or on the school bus. Teachers should not see cell phones for any reason while students are in school or on the school bus Cell phones that ring or are being used for text messaging or photographing will be taken and parents will be contacted

Read it with your parents when you get home
