What is it and why do we teach it?

E-safety is about keeping your child safe when they are using electronic devices.
This can include: Tablets (iPads, Kindle, Hudl etc.) Smartphones Laptops Desktops X-Box Playstation Games Consoles

This week in school, we have done the following:
Assemblies to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 telling them about E-safety and giving them information about how to stay safe Introduced the new homepage and explained how to use the “worried button” Done work in classes to discuss individual concerns and reminded them about the relevant information Updated the E-Safety policy with the relevant information Asked a sample of pupils to fill out an E-Safety questionnaire to check that they have understood the key messages

How can you protect your child when they are accessing the internet ?
Do you know what your child is doing on their computers or mobile devices? How can you protect your child when they are accessing the internet ?

Setting up Internet Protection at Home…
There is lots of information about how to set up the best protection for each device at the link below.

Setting up a Safe Homepage…
Set your homepage on the computer / create a new tab on your smartphone or handheld device to the website below.

Worried Button If anything makes your child feel uncomfortable online, they should tell someone. This could include: Pictures / photos Messages from friends / strangers Comments made in text messages or online Other people putting pressure on them to try a game / app that they know isn’t appropriate. The worried button links to a form that allows them to tell an adult in school.

Social Networking… Do your children use Facebook? Snapchat? Twitter? Instagram? Club Penguin? Movie Star Planet? Moshi Monsters? If they do, is it their own account or yours that they use? Are the settings set to the most private settings? Can anyone tag them in a picture or do they have to approve them? Can anyone post to their timeline?

X-Box Live… Where is the X-Box located?
Is their microphone turned off or on? Who is on their friends list? Do they play group / campaign games? Are they always playing with the same person? Do you know who that is?

Smartphones… Do they have their own phone?
Can they access the internet on it? Is there any filtering on it? Do they message friends? Is there any way of supervising their usage?

Tablets… Do they always use it in the same room as you?
Do you know what they have been on? Have you shown them what to do if they find something that is inappropriate? Can they download their own apps or do you have to put a password in? Can they access it at any time of day? Have you heard of guided access?

Laptops and desktops… What do they use them for?
Do they have a webcam? Do you check the history regularly? Is it a shared computer?
