Tuchola Forest The Tuchola Forest, also known as Tuchola Pinewoods, is a large forest near the town of Tuchola in northern Poland, which lies between the Brda and Wda Rivers. It contains the Tuchola Forest National Park, which is at the core of the Tuchola Forest Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO in 2010.

Landscape and terrain Sand dunes
The area was formed during the last glacial age and is covered with low hills and more than 900 post-glacial lakes. Tuchola Forest grows mainly on the outwash sands. There are also moraine hills, sand dunes and many river valleys. The main rivers are Brda and Wda. Tuchola Forest has two types of climate: continental climate in the south-east and oceanic climate in the north-west.The soils are usually poor. Sand dunes

Tuchola Forest in the history...
In 1939, during the Invasion of Poland at the very beginning of World War II, the major Battle of Tuchola Forest was fought in the area. Soon, the former military test area was occupied again by German troops and called Truppenübungsplatz Westpreußen, or by its code name, "Heidekraut". After World War II, the forest was a safe haven for many anti-communist partisans.

FAUNA OF TUCHOLA FOREST
The area in Northern Poland is home to many different species of animals like: red deer, roe deer, fox, wild boar, wolf. There are also plenty of rare birds, mainly: crane, heron, raven, eagle owl and black stork.

FLORA OF TUCHOLA FOREST
The flora of Tuchola Forest is termed as quite rich. The dominant tree species is pine. In some areas there are heaths. Lake gutters have turned into peat bogs or fertile meadows. On peat bogs occur quite frequently small cranberry, marsh and mosses. This flora also stands out positively, beacuse of the existence of relicts. This indicates a high degree of naturalness of the region.

Bory Tucholskie National Park
Bory Tucholskie National Park is a national park in Poland, created on July 1, 1996. It covers an area of square kilometres of forests, lakes, meadows and peatlands. The park is in the northern part of Poland, in Chojnice County in Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the heart of the Tuchola Forest, the largest woodland in Poland. The park forms the core of the Tuchola Forest Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO in 2010. PARK LOGO
