1 “Every Word” Matthew 4:1-4

2 Matthew 4:1-4 “1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” "Every Word"

3 Introduction Devil tempted Jesus with food He had just fasted 40 days
We would all be hungry after only a 1-2 day fast Jesus cites scripture - Deuteronomy 8:3 “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live” "Every Word"

4 Introduction The word of God must be preached on any Bible subject
Cannot pick & choose - 2 Timothy 4:1-8 Cannot use just one point of truth according to one’s agenda Must preach “all the counsel of God” - Acts 20:27 Acts 20:20-32; 1 Peter 4:11 No part is non-essential Proverbs 30:5 Acts 20:20-32 READ 1 Peter 4:11 - If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Proverbs 14:15 - The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. Proverbs 30:5 - Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. "Every Word"

5 Albert Barns on Acts 20:27 On - “…all the counsel of God”
“It means here the will or purpose of God, as revealed in regard to the salvation of men. Paul had made a full statement of that plan-of the guilt of men, of the claims of the law, of the need of a Saviour, of the provisions of mercy, and of the state of future rewards and punishments. Ministers ought to declare all that counsel, because God commands it; because it is needful for the salvation of men; and because the message is not theirs, but God’s, and they have no right to change, to disguise, or to withhold it.” "Every Word"

6 Bible on Salvation-Justification
Saved by… Faith - Romans 5:1 Grace - Ephesians 2:8-9 Words - Acts 11:13-14 Blood of Christ - Matthew 26:26-28 Hope - Romans 8:24 Works - James 2:24 Baptism - 1 Peter 3:21; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38 Obedience - Hebrews 5:8-9; Matthew 7:21 In a court of law one is expected to… “Tell the truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth” Romans 5:1 - Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Acts 11: And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. Matthew 26: And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Romans 8:24 - For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? James 2:24 - Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. (KJV) 1 Peter 3:21 - The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (KJV) Hebrews 5:8-9 - Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (KJV) "Every Word"

7 Facts About the Word of God
It is powerful - Romans 1:16 It cuts to the heart - Hebrews 4:12; Isaiah 49:2; Rev. 2:12-16 Must “rightly divide” it - 2 Timothy 2:15 We should tremble at it - Isaiah 66:1,2 Heed its good examples - Acts 8:26-40; 10:33; 16:13,14 Builds one up - Acts 20:32 Judges us - John 12:48 Reproves us - 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 Exhorts & Convinces - 2 Timothy 4:2; Titus 1:9; 2:6,9,15 Romans 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power (dunamis- power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work)- of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek Heb. 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Isaiah 49:2 - And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me. Revelation 2: READ - “Sword of my mouth” vs. 16 2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (expound correctly the divine message) the word of truth. Isaiah 66:1-2 - Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. Acts 8:26-32; 10:33; Acts 11:1 - READ ; Lydia - Acts 16: READ Acts 20:32 - And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified John 12:48 - He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 4:2 - Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort (invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation) with all longsuffering and doctrine. Titus 1:9; 2:6,9,15 - READ "Every Word"

8 Some Often Ignored Words
“11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” - Titus 2:11-12 "Every Word"

9 Soberly-Righteously-Godly
“Soberly” (Inwardly) 1 Corinthians 9:27; Romans 6:12-13; 12:1-2 Colossians 3:1-2 “Righteously” (Outwardly) Matthew 7:12; Mark 12:31 Luke 17:3; James 5:19-20 “Godly” (Upwardly) Mark 12:28-30; Matthew 6:33 1 John 5:3. 1 Corinthians 9:27 - But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. Romans 6: Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. {instruments: Gr. arms, or, weapons} Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Colossians 3:1-2 - If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. {affection: or, mind} Matt. 7:12 - Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Mark 12:31 - And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
