Overview Comprehensive summative assessment grades 3-12
Commonly referred to as EOG (Grades 3-8) or EOC (H.S. courses) Designed to measure how well students have learned knowledge/skills based on content standards Assessments are given in ELA (Reading and Writing), Math, Science and Social Studies (Grade 5 Only)
3
Purpose of the Assessment
Provides information about how well students are mastering the standards in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies (Sci./S.S. Grade 5 Only) Provides students with critical information about their own achievement and readiness for their next level of learning Serves as a key component of the state’s accountability system – College and Career Performance Readiness Index (CCRPI)
4
Important Changes Reduction in state testing (total of nine at the Elementary level) K – GKids, 3&4 – ELA and Math, 5 – ELA, Math, Science & S.S. Grades 1&2 – Formative Assessment, subject to Appropriations/Funding Science and Social Studies will no longer be assessed in Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 Title of the Writing portion of the ELA subtest – Reading/Evidence-Based Writing Previous field tested items will be operational on this year’s assessment
5
Important Changes, cont.
Sequence of subtest administration: Day 1: ELA – Section 1 is now Reading/Evidence-Based Writing Day 2: ELA – Sections 2 & 3 are now Reading/Vocabulary Day 3: Math – Sections 1 and 2 Day 4: Science – Sections 1 and 2 (Grade 5 Only) Day 5: Social Studies – Sections 1 and 2 (Grade 5 Only)
6
Assessment Structure Open-ended (constructed-response) items in English Language Arts and mathematics, in addition to selected response, at every grade level and course Writing component (in response to passages read by students) at every grade level and course within the English Language Arts assessment Transition to online administration over time, with online administration considered the primary mode of administration and paper-pencil as back-up until the transition is complete Previous year’s field tested items will be operational this year Norm-referenced items in all content areas and courses, to complement the criterion-referenced information and to provide a national comparison
7
Norm Referenced Items Norm-referenced items included to allow for national comparison; some NRT items are aligned to state-adopted content standards and will contribute to the criterion-referenced proficiency score. Those that are not aligned will not contribute to the score or accountability/teacher effectiveness measures

Georgia Milestones Item Types Selected-Response [aka, multiple-choice]
Constructed response is a general term for assessment items that require the student to generate a response as opposed to selecting a response. Extended-response items require more elaborate answers and explanations of reasoning. They allow for multiple correct answers and/or varying methods of arriving at the correct answer. Writing prompts and performance tasks are examples of extended-response items. Item Types Selected-Response [aka, multiple-choice] all content areas, evidence-based selected response in ELA Constructed-Response - ELA and mathematics Extended- Constructed Response - ELA and mathematics Extended Writing Response - ELA Technology Enhanced - to begin in

Online Testing All of Grade 4 will test online
Additionally, the majority of our EL and SWD students will test online

Reading & Evidence-Based Writing - Online
The left side of the screen, with the ELA Passage, and the right side of the screen, with the test items and Writing Task, function independently. Students can refer to either passage or Writing Task while typing a response. Tracks the number of characters the student has entered and provides the number allowed, such as (0/1500).
15
Reading & Evidence-Based Writing - Online
Students are told the type of essay they will write. The Extended Writing Task is displayed on right side of the screen. Click “Enlarge” to see the Writer’s Checklist; this screen can be moved. Turning pages requires clicking on the left or right side of the ELA Passage Students begin writing their essay here.
