4 EHSI Cockpit Differences

5 Switchology GPS/VLOC Pressing GNS 430 CDI selector one time switches GNS 430, Right HSI, and both RMI NAV Single Bar Pointers between GPS and VLOC mode with appropriate mode indicated on GNS 430 display and Remote Enunciator Panel.

6 Switchology: Left HSI GPS to VOR
Left HSI: Switched with MENU selector

7 Switchology: Left HSI GPS to VOR
Left HSI: Turn right knob to VOR, then press MENU to select

8 Switchology: Left HSI GPS to VOR
Left HSI: NAV-2 VOR now displayed Notice CDI and HDG BUG digital display in upper left corner

9 GPS Display Color BLUE (cyan) when in non-approach phase

10 GPS Display Color Green when in approach phase
Notice DIST to WPT and GS/TTS digital display in upper right corner

11 GPS DTK Sequencing GPS CRS automatically displays/sequences DTK
No need to use HSI Knob to change x-ing WPTs

OBS CRS set through Right-Knob Vs HSI Knob

13 LOC (ILS) Display: Centered
Glide Slope displayed only on right side of HSI “LOC” displayed For LOC or ILS

15 Switchology: Shortcuts
MENU Button: Press and hold for 2-sec to permit brightness adjustment. Sync HDG BUG-Press to enter menu mode, press again to exit and hold 1-sec. HDG BUG will sync to current hdg.

16 Standardization For IERW training, only use normal HSI mode to keep it the same as the “old” HSI (will have a mixed fleet!) All other FTG standards remain the same.

21 Observations Easy to set manual CRS wrong, double-check student
If you can’t resist, experiment with your own HSI. Don’t play with student’s HSI! When more of a mixed fleet exists, students will likely forget to manually set GPS CRS with “old” HSI HFS update being coordinated
